The Lakshmi Makara Emeralds Tanmonia is a divinely magnificent antique gold-plated silver Tanmonia — the sacred centrepiece ornament of a South Indian black bead (karimani) necklace — whose composition centres upon Goddess Lakshmi seated on the sacred lotus within a CZ-paved circular arc, flanked by two Makara (mythical auspicious sea creatures) rendered in glorious deep-relief antique gold, with CZ-paved bodies and vivid ruby-pink CZ eyes that watch over the Goddess with eternal devotion. Elaborate antique-gold leaf and scroll work extends from the Makara outward to the threading loops on either end of the piece, creating a wide, theatrical composition of sacred marine-and-floral imagery through which the black bead strings pass and become blessed by the Goddess's presence. A small pendant of freshwater seed pearls and a single emerald green bead drops from the lower centre, evoking the sacred forest colours of Shri Lakshmi and completing a Tanmonia of extraordinary devotional beauty and traditional craftsmanship.
